SEC NRS Attends 41st meeting of IAEA Commission on Safety Standards

The 41st meeting of the IAEA Commission on Safety Standards (CSS) took place on April 19 and 20, 2017, in Vienna, Austria. It was attended by SEC NRS Deputy Director Rashet Sharafutdinov as a member of the Rostechnadzor delegation headed by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov.

The meeting addressed the implementation of the outcome of the 40th CSS meeting and priority areas of the IAEA Department of Nuclear Safety and Security activities in 2017.

In addition, the chairs of the Safety Standard Committees – the Waste Safety Standards Committee (WASSC), the Radiation Safety Standards Committee (RASSC), the Transport Safety Standards Committee (TRASSC) and the Nuclear Safety Standards Committee (NUSSC), and the chair of the IAEA Nuclear Security Guidance Committee (NSGC) reported on the activities of their committees in the reporting period.

In line with the agenda, the members approved the draft publications and document preparation profiles presented by the relevant committees.

The IAEA CSS is a standing body of senior officials from the national regulatory agencies whose competence covers development and introduction of documents on nuclear and radiological safety, safe transportation and waste treatment. The CSS meetings are held biannually.
