Main topic of “AtomEco 2017” will be “Clean Energy for Future Generations” 07.11.2017

The International Public Dialogue-Forum and Exhibition “AtomEco 2017” will take place in the World Trade Center in Moscow on November 21-22. The event will be carried out upon the initiative of the State Corporation ROSATOM and will provide an international platform for discussion of ecological aspects of the nuclear power industry, for demonstration of advanced technologies in the field of provision of nuclear, radiation and environmental safety. 

The main topic of “AtomEco 2017” is going to be “Clean Energy for Future Generations”. The plenary session will be devoted to the contribution of the nuclear power industry to the long-term stable reduction of load onto the environment, international cooperation in the Arctic region, as well as to the issues of legal regulation and technological development. “AtomEco 2017” expects participation of: Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the SC ROSATOM; Sergey Donskoy, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of Russia; Mikhail Chudakov, IAEA Deputy Director General; representatives of government and regulatory authorities, of international, public and environmental organizations, enterprises of ROSATOM and organizations from the related industries.

The following topics are going to be discussed during the sessions and round-tables: advanced technologies and share of the best practices in the field of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel handling, decommissioning of nuclear and radiation-hazard facilities; closed nuclear fuel cycle as the basis for environmentally sound nuclear power; current challenges and approaches to safety regulation in the field of atomic energy use with the account of the public and state interests; ecological aspects of the Arctic region development; disposal of the nuclear legacy of the Russian northwest facilities, international cooperation practices in solving of complicated nuclear-ecological challenges; first results of the Federal Target Program “Nuclear and Radiation Safety for 2016-2020”; creation of deep geological disposal facilities for radioactive waste; adjustment of the RF Law in the field of environmental safety; current formats for public discussions.

As a rule, the Forum and Exhibition is attended by the representatives of the leading Russian and foreign companies involved in radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel handling, decommissioning, cleaning-up of various media, processing of industrial wastes, as well as by experts and representatives from the international, environmental and public organizations. Among them are such Russian enterprises and organizations as: IBRAE RAS, SEC NRS, Khlopin Radium Institute, “Pilot and Demonstration Center for Decommissioning of Uranium-Graphite Nuclear Reactors” JSC; MCC, PA “Mayak”, SC ROSATOM, “Kvant”, “Radon”; “RosRAO”; “NO RAO”, NIKIMT, SverdNIIkhimmash, JSC “Atomenergomash”, JSC “TVEL”, SNIIP, NEOLANT, and etc.; foreign and international organizations: ANDRA, STUK (Finland), DBE (Germany), SKB (Sweden), KORAD (Republic of Korea), IAEA, NEA OECD, as well as the public organizations: Bellona and the Russian Green Cross.

The Exhibition “AtomEco 2017” will demonstrate the advanced technologies of ROSATOM organizations regarding radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel handling, decommissioning, treatment of various media, as well as processing of overall industrial and domestic wastes.

Moreover, technical tours to Obninsk and SNIIP (Moscow) will be arranged for the participants of “AtomEco 2017”. During the tour to SNIIP the Forum participants will meet the leadership of the Institute, will visit the laboratory of radiation detectors, the assembling shop, the test site, numerical control department, Metrology and Test Center and other facilities. 

“AtomEco 2017” Agenda also includes presentation of regions of NPP locations in Hungary: Paks NPP, the power units in operation; Gerjen NPP, the power units planned for construction. During the non-official part of the Forum the guests, attendants and participants will enjoy the Exhibition of winners of the International Children Photo Competition 'Embraced by Nature', which was organized by the Fund for support of municipalities development “Association of nuclear power plant locations” (ATR NPP Fund) together with the Rosenergoatom Concern and Paks NPP (Hungary).
