In the context of cooperation between SEC NRS and the State Scientific Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS, Ukraine), the working meeting to discuss the current state of regulatory frameworks in the field of nuclear and radiation safety regulation in Russia and Ukraine was held in Kiev on July 17 – 18, 2012. SEC NRS delegation was headed by A.A. Khamaza. The goal of the working meeting was to review the current state of nuclear safety regulation in Russia and Ukraine, and to make recommendations for improvements. Having considered the state of nuclear safety regulation in Russia and Ukraine, the participants of the working meeting emphasized, that a huge amount of work on enhancement of NPP safety regulatory requirements has been performed in recent years. At the same time, the analysis of lessons learnt from the Fukushima-Daiichi NPP has revealed a number of areas for further improvements in NPP safety regulatory requirements. In the course of the discussions the priority directions in mutual activity were specified for the area of nuclear safety regulation for the short term, and a decision was taken to enhance cooperation between SEC NRS and SSTC NRS in the form of information sharing and periodic working meetings of specialists to discuss certain issues. Summarizing the results of the meeting a protocol was signed to propose the further development of the partnership links and cooperation in the field of nuclear safety regulation between SEC NRS and SSTC NRS. |
