Rostechnadzor held the final meeting under the TACIS Project “Support to Rostechnadzor in Licensing of Waste Management Activities”

12.12.2012 On December 11, 2012 Rostechnadzor held the final meeting under the TACIS Project “Support to Rostechnadzor in Licensing of Waste Management Activities” (RF/TS/54).

The event was arranged by SEC NRS and RISKAUDIT (France), which are the parties under the Project Implementation Agreement. The meeting was also attended by the representatives from Rostechnadzor Department 6, European Commission, IRSN (France), GRS (Germany), ITERCONSULT (Italy).

Based on the results of the meeting the participants stated fulfillment of works by SEC NRS under the TACIS Project and noted successful finalization both of the Project and the whole program of works under the TACIS projects.

The TACIS Program (Technical Assistance to the Commonwealth of Independent States) of the EU Commission was developed in 1991 and implemented on the initiative of the European Union for the countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia for the purposes of contribution to harmonic and successful economic and political connections between the European Union and these partner countries. The TACIS Program was aimed at rendering assistance to the countries of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in ensurance of nuclear safety at nuclear plants.

The key goal of the Program was to upgrade safety of nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities in the Russian Federation, including nuclear fuel cycle facilities and radioactive waste management facilities.

Gosatomnadzor cooperation with the European Union started in 1992 after the Nuclear Assistance Coordination Committee of twenty-four highly-developed countries NUSAG G-24 acting in charge of G-7 specified the high priority measures to upgrade nuclear safety in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and CIS.

SEC NRS was entrusted by Gosatomnadzor to take part in implementation of the TACIS Project.
