Plenary session of the Technical Committee 85 “Nuclear Energy” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC 85) 07.06.2014

The XIX plenary session of the Technical Committee 85 “Nuclear Energy” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC 85) was held in the International Trade Centre in June 2 – 6, 2014. The organizers of the plenary session were the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia (Rostechnadzor), the Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart), Rosatom State Corporation.

Alexey Ferapontov, the State Secretary – Deputy Chairman of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia, the Chairman of the “Nuclear Technology” Russian Technical Committee for Standardization (TC 322) with the entrusted functions of the permanent national working member of ISO/TC85S, started the session with the opening speech.

Experts of national standards bodies, as well as specialists in the field of atomic energy use from more than 10 countries from all over the world, including the Russian Federation, Germany, France, Spain, India, Japan, Korea, Iran and etc. took part in the XIX session of the “Nuclear Energy” Technical Committee 85  of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), its Subcommittees, Working and Advisory Groups.

Meetings of the Working and Advisory Groups as well as the ISO/TC85 Subcommittees were held with the valuable contribution of Russian specialists involving SEC NRS experts.

The meeting of the “The physical barriers system for protection against ionizing radiation” Working Group 23 of “Radiological protection” SC 2 (ISO/TC 85/SC 2/WG 23) is of particular note. The “Iodine sorbents for nuclear facilities applications - Method for defining sorption capacity index” ISO 18417 international standard is under the preparation on the basis of the “Sorbents for trapping radioiodine at nuclear power plants. Method for determination of sorption capacity index” GOST R 54443-2011 national standard. SEC NRS specialists take part in the international standard development.
