Rostechnadzor hosted the Seminar on nuclear power industry development

05.09.2018 On August 21, 2018 the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia (Rostechnadzor) hosted the Seminar on the issues of nuclear power industry development. The Seminar was attended by leaders and employees of the Rostechnadzor Headquarters, as well as by the SEC NRS leaders and experts (TSO for Rostechnadzor).

Mr. Alexey Ferapontov, Deputy Chairman of Rostechnadzor, while opening the meeting noted that introduction of the innovative design and engineering solutions, envisaged in particular in new generation nuclear plants faces new challenges in the field of safety provision and substantiation.

Mr. Bulat Nigmatulin, First General Director Deputy of the Institute for Natural Monopolies Research, presented to the participants the report ?Nuclear power engineering in Russia and worldwide?. The report presented the analysis of effects of NPP accidents at ?Three Mile Island?, Chernobyl NPP and Fukushima Daiichi NPP at the rate of development of nuclear power industry worldwide, and also gave long-term perspectives for change in electric power production at the Russian and foreign NPPs with the consideration of the present knowledge about explored reserves and volumes of natural uranium extraction, as well as various scenarios for nuclear fuel cycles development.

In conclusion of the Seminar, Mr. Nigmatulin specified the main challenges for the State Corporation Rosatom with regard to feasibility and calculation & experimental study for innovative NPP designs, such as VVER-TOI and BREST-OD-300.
