The 13th International Nuclear Forum "Safety of Nuclear Technologies: Transport of Radioactive Materials (ATOMTRANS-2018)" starts session in St.Peterburg

02.10.2018 The 13th International Nuclear Forum "Safety of Nuclear Technologies: Transport of Radioactive Materials" starts session at St.Peterburg branch of the Rosatom Technical Academy. This year the Forum is held under the title "ATOMTRANS-2018", and the main topic is transport of radioactive materials.

The official opening and the plenary session of the 13th International Nuclear Forum is expected on October 2 (Tuesday). The plenary session will be held under the chairmanship of Mr. Sergey Raikov,  Director of the SC Rosatom for Special Transport and Emergency Response; Mr. Tair Tairov, Pro-rector and Director of the St.Peterburg branch of the Rosatom Technical Academy, and Mr. Alexander Buchelnikov, Head of Special Transport Department.

The goal of the "ATOMTRANS-2018" Forum is discussion of the national and international experience, state and perspectives of transport of various types of radioactive materials, as one of the necessary and most important stages in the use of atomic energy and radiation technologies in industry, medicine, agriculture, scientific research and other areas.

"The theme is essential and particularly vital", said Mr. Tair Tairov, Pro-rector and Director of the St.Peterburg branch of the Rosatom Technical Academy. "The arrangements taken in frames of the Forum are aimed at solving the problems of safe and effective transport of radioactive materials. After all the provision of the required safety level at transport considerably effects the development of industry fields applying nuclear technologies, as well as their positive perception by the society".

In the course of the week program of events the various aspects, such as: scientific and technical, legal, social and political will be considered together with the ways of solution of nuclear and radiation safety issues for radioactive material transport. Particular attention shall be paid to emergency response and risk evaluation during transport, cargo tracking, physical protection at nuclear materials transport and safety culture in total.

Among the reporters there will be representatives of the leading companies of the industry: State Corporation Rosatom, JSC Atomspetstrans, JSC FCS&HT “SNPO “Eleron”, SOSNY R&D Company, FSUE Emergency and Technical Center of the Minatom of Russia, Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety of France (IRSN) and many others.

On October 4 (Thursday) The Forum participants will attend technical tours to the enterprises of the Isotope JSC (St. Petersburg) and FSUE Emergency and Technical Center of the Minatom of Russia.

Isotope JSC is the leading north-west region organization in charge of transport and dispatch of radioactive substances and nuclear materials. In the course of the visit the specialists will demonstrate the equipment and process of cargoes preparation to transport.

FSUE Emergency and Technical Center of the Minatom of Russia was founded for arrangement and conduct of emergency and resque and other urgent works in case of radioation accidents and incidents, and is included into the group of   instant ready forces and means of the Russian system for prevention and relief of emergency situations. Within the technical tour the participants will observe visual demonstration of the enterprise response forces and means for elimination of radiation accident consequences, and also will obtain the detailed information about the activity and capabilities of the St.Petersburg Emergency and Technical Center. In particular, the enterprise specialists will demonstrate the available robot tools and emergency-rescue vehicles equipped with the special equipment.

Representatives from more than 50 organizations in nuclear industry of Russia, Bolivia, Hungary, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, the USA, Finland and France will take part in the 13th Forum.

Representatives from the RF federal executive authorities, national competent authorities of the other countries, organizations and entities in nuclear industry of Russia and other countries were invited to participate in the Forum.
