RB-142-18 has been put into force

27.11.2018

The Safety Guide for atomic energy use “Seismological monitoring of nuclear- and radiation hazardous facilities sites” (RB-142-18) was put into force on November 27, 2018.

The Safety Guide covers recommendations of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service on the carrying out of local seismological monitoring for the safety justification of nuclear installations deployment within undivided tectonic block with no active faults and geodynamic zones (potential source zones), as well as recommendations on parameters stability control of the seismic regime of the location area, parameters of a design-basis earthquake and a maximum design earthquake on the site based on the results of seismological monitoring under deployment, construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear installations.

RB-142-18 is aimed to be used by organizations conducting engineering surveys and research on determination of region and site seismology, and conducting safety justification of buildings and facilities, seismic resistance of nuclear installations systems and elements.

Requirements of the federal rules and regulations in the field of atomic energy use may be fulfilled with the usage of other means (methods) of seismologic monitoring than enumerated in the Safety Guide if they would be justified as sufficient means (methods) for safety provision.

The Safety Guide is not applicable to general seismic zoning, seismic microzoning of a site, a system of industrial seismic protection and a system of registration of strong ground motions at a nuclear installation site.

Order of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service №592, November 27, 2018.
