46th Meeting of the Commission on Safety Standards took place at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna

Delegation of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (members of the delegation: Rostechnadzor Deputy Chairman Mr Alexey Ferapontov, and SEC NRS Deputy Director Mr Rashet Sharafutdinov) took part in the 46th Meeting of the Commission on Safety Standards (CSS) which was held in Austria (IAEA Headquarters in Vienna) on December 16-20, 2019.

IAEA Commission on Safety Standards is a permanent body which unites senior officials of national regulatory bodies responsible for development and enforcement of regulatory documents concerning nuclear, radiation safety, transportation safety, and waste management. CSS Meetings are held regularly, namely twice a year, and cover the discussions of the IAEA policies and strategies in the field of policy-making, and the revision of the prepared safety standards drafts and their endorsement for publication.

The following documents were approved for publication during the 46th meeting:

  • DS469: Preparedness and Response for a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency Involving the Transport of Radioactive Material;
  • DS494: Protection against Internal Hazards in the Design of Nuclear Power Plants, revision and combination of NS-G-1.7 and NS-G-1.11;
  • DS496: Advisory Material for the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material – Edition for the revision of SSR-6;
  • DS506: Schedules of Provisions of the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material;
  • DPP DS513: Leadership, Management and Culture for Safety;
  • DPP DS519: Protection of Workers against Exposure due to Radon;
  • DPP DS520: Hazards Associated with External Human Induced Events in Site Evaluation for Nuclear Installations, revision of NS-G-3.1;
  • DPP DS522: Evaluation of Seismic Safety for Existing Nuclear Installations
  • DPP DS523: Development and Application of Level 1 Probabilistic Safety Assessment for Nuclear Power Plants, revision of SSG-3;
  • DPP DS524: Radiation Protection Aspects of Design for Nuclear Power Plants, revision of NS-G-1.13;
  • NST058: National Nuclear Security Threat Assessment, Design Basis Threats and Representative Threat Statements.
