The 2022 IAEA International TSOs Conference is planned to take place in Russia in 2022 24.06.2020

In cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rostechnadzor supported by SEC NRS has started to work on preparation for the organization and conduct of the IAEA International Conference on Challenges Faced by Technical and Scientific Support Organizations (TSOs) in Enhancing Nuclear Safety and Security (hereinafter referred to as “TSO Conference”), which is scheduled for 2022 in Russia.

Under the Rostechnadzor order a Working group to prepare for the TSO Conference in 2022 in Russia was established. The first meeting of the Working group, chaired by Alexey Ferapontov, the Deputy Chairman of Rostechnadzor, was held on June 23, 2020. As a result, it was tentatively agreed to hold the TSO Conference in October 2022 in Saint-Petersburg, and the IAEA was informed about it.

A response from the IAEA is currently expected.

The purpose of the IAEA International Conference on Challenges Faced by Technical and Scientific Support Organizations in Enhancing Nuclear Safety and Security (the TSO Conference) is held every four years: France (2007), Japan (2010), China (2014), Belgium (2018).

The conference is organized and accepted on behalf of the Government of the IAEA member state on the basis of an Agreement between the IAEA and the host Government represented by an authorized organization.

The aim of the TSO Conference is to promote cooperation between all TSOs and organizations interested in technical and scientific issues related to nuclear safety.

The TSOs Conference provides an opportunity to attract the attention of the world nuclear community to topical issues in the field of providing to nuclear safety regulatory bodies scientific and technical support and possible solutions that could further be applied in national practice.

The following issues are discussed during the conference:

  • the role of TSOs and their global cooperation, including countries that are expanding or developing nuclear power programmes;
  • coordination and cooperation among members of the TSOs Forum for the development of scientific and technical potential, including education and training;
  • exchange of experience in the field of nuclear safety and nuclear security;
  • taking into account the application of the IAEA Safety Standards and publications in the field of nuclear security.

The conference participants from the IAEA member countries are the management and representatives of:

  • state regulatory bodies of nuclear and radiation safety of the host country;
  • TSOs;
  • operating / design organizations of the atomic energy industry;
  • specialized universities and institutes.
