Meeting of Session No. 1 "Physics of Nuclear Reactors and Systems with Nuclear Materials, Nuclear Safety, Particles Fluence" of the Rostechnadzor Expert Council on Validation of Computer Codes

17.06.2021 The mentioned meeting addressed the results of safety review of the following computer codes:
  • "MNT-CUDA" (Version 2.0) intended for computation of neutronic characteristics of RBMK reactor installations (Computer Code Developer – JSC "VNIIAES");
  • "MCU5 with the library of constants MDB550 for computation of PIK reactor" intended for computation of neutronic characteristics of PIK research reactor with the account of burnup processes under the reactor operation (Computer Code Developer – NRC "Kurchatov Institute");
  • "CHAIN" intended for computation of change in the nuclide composition of materials under neutron irradiation and in the process of radioactive decay of unstable nuclei contained in irradiated materials (Computer Code Developer – NRC "Kurchatov Institute");
  • "STEPANKOBRA-PIK" intended for 3D steade-state neutronic characteristics computation of PIK research reactor and for simulation of the emergency and transient processes of the mentioned reactor installation (Computer Code Developer – NRC "Kurchatov Institute");
  • "TIGRIS-HEX" intended for steady-state neutronic characteristics computation of VVR-ts research reactor with the account of fuel burnup and beryllium reflector poisoning (Computer Code Developer – JSC Karpov Institute of Physical Chemistry);
  • "KORSAR-GP" intended for numerical simulation of steady-state conditions, transient and emergency modes of VVER reactor installations, as well as for modeling of thermohydraulic processes in experimental installations and water cooled test benches (Computer Code Developer – FSUE "Alexandrov Research Institute of Technology" (NITI)).
The meeting addressed applications for review of the following computer codes:

  • "BARSTR" intended for 3D neutronic channel-by-channel, assembly-by-assembly or rod-by-rod computation of steady-state conditions, modeling of campaigns for VVER reactors (Customer of the review – NRC "Kurchatov Institute");
  • "LOGOS-NEUTRON" intended for computation of neutron multiplication factor, coefficients of reactivity and power distribution in a fuel assembly and reactor core on the basis of discrete ordinate method in multigroup anisotropic kinetic approximation (Computer Code Developer – FSUE RFNC-VNIIEF);
  • "MMKS" intended for precision computation of neutronic characteristics of MBIR research reactor using the Monte Carlo method and files of detailed energy dependence sections (Computer Code Developer – IPPE JSC);
  • "TRIGEX" intended for computation of neutronic characteristics of MBIR research reactor core using diffusion approximation (Computer Code Developer – IPPE JSC);
  • "MMKKENO" intended for computation of neutronic characteristics of the research reactor core using the Monte Carlo method and multigroup approximation (Computer Code Developer – IPPE JSC);
  • "SKIF 1.0" intended for computation of change in nuclide composition, residual power release, neutron and gamma-radiation sources of nuclear fuel of MBIR research reactor (Computer Code Developer – IPPE JSC).
Reference information: Rostechnadzor Order No. 450 of 20.09.2018 states that SEC NRS implements the activity related to computer codes review.

Rostechnadzor Expert Council on Validation of Computer Codes was formed for the purpose of implementation of Article 8 “Review Procedure of Computer Codes used for the Development of Simulation Models of the Processes which Exert Influence on the Safety of Nuclear Installations and (or) Activities in the Field of Atomic Energy Use” approved by Rostechnadzor Order No. 325 of 30.07.2018 (registered by the Ministry of Justice of Russia on 12.11.2018 under the No. 52650).

Provisions on the Expert Council approved by Rostechnadzor Order No. 655 of 27.12.2018. The Expert Council major tasks are to evaluate the results of review of computer codes, as well as to provide proposals on the content of draft validation certificates for computer codes.
