Amendments to NP-019-15

On October 30, 2021 the amendments to NP-019-15 "Collection, Processing, Storage and Conditioning of Liquid Radioactive Waste. Safety Requirements" are coming into effect. The amendments have been approved by the Order of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia of September 13, 2021 No. 299.

NP-019-15 was approved by the Order of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia of June 25, 2015 No. 242. Registered by the Ministry of Justice of Russia on July 27, 2015 under the No. 38209. Took effect on August 10, 2015.

NP-019-15 stipulates the requirements to safety in the process of collection, processing, storage and conditioning of liquid radioactive wastes (and those liquids that are not subject to further use, such as organic and nonorganic liquids, pulps, sludges, the content of radionuclides in which exceeds the limit values of specific activity for wastes established by the regulatory legal acts) at nuclear facilities, radiation sources, nuclear materials and radioactive substances storage facilities, and radioactive wastes storage facilities (storages).

The Safety Requirements cover the process of collection, processing, storage and conditioning of liquid radioactive wastes at nuclear facilities, radiation sources and storage facilities under design, construction, operation and decommissioning.

NP-019-15 does not cover management of special liquid radioactive wastes, including those that were collected by surface (industrial) storage reservoirs for liquid radioactive wastes and tailing dumps.
