Cooperation between SEC NRS and Institut de radioprotection et de sûreté nucléaire (IRSN) has been effected since 1997 in frames of the “Cooperation Agreement in the Field of Nuclear Safety”. The latest validity extension for the period of 5 years was put into effect in Cadarache, France on July 9, 2014.

In frames of implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between Institut de radioprotection et de sûreté nucléaire (IRSN) and SEC NRS the following activities were fulfilled in 2014: basic topics of cooperation were agreed and specified for the period of 2014 – 2016, including: cross-verification of software applied for nuclear safety analysis at nuclear fuel management with the account of the aspects of transportation; thermal stability of chemical processes at nuclear fuel cycle facilities; key issues of RW management including acceptance criteria and general researches with the use of the software, as well as share of experience in safety assessment of fast neutron reactors and training of SEC NRS specialists to apply the ASTEC code.

Workshop on IRSN databases containing records of the events at NPPs, nuclear fuel cycle facilities and nuclear research facilities was held in Paris. SEC NRS representatives reported on the topics: “Regulation of Operating Lifetime Extension of Nuclear Fuel Cycle Facilities”, “Methodology of Stress Tests for Nuclear Facilities”, “Regulation of Safety Culture Assessment of Nuclear Facilities”, “Development of Regulatory Documents Specifying Radioactive Waste Acceptance Criteria”, “Fire and Explosive Safety of Nuclear Fuel Cycle Facilities”, “Current Results of Research Regarding Fire and Explosive Safety of Chemical Reactions of Extraction and Sorption Systems”.

The working meeting for discussion of issues related to emergency preparedness and response, as well as issues regarding the current state of cooperation and its perspectives, took place in Moscow.
